ID Card Holders

When thinking of ID card holders that are just another name for passport covers, the first thought that comes to mind will be different from other people as there are quite a few different types of card holders. It depends on the purpose of the holder and the individual’s preference as to which is the best to use.

A popular ID card holder is using a lanyard to hang the card around the neck and the plastic card holder on the end of it. The NHS is an example of an organisation that uses this type of identification. Having the cards held in this way means people can see they work for the NHS and are not members of the public just walking around the building. It also means that when they need to access a staff only door, the ID card is easily accessible from around their neck and since it is not a clip on they don’t need to take it off to use it.

Another popular form of ID card holder is the clip on. This uses a simple crocodile type clip to put the ID on show on their clothing. If the purpose of the ID card is just to be viewable to others, this is an appropriate way to do that. These are often used for visitor badges too – they are cheap to purchase and easy for visitors to just clip onto their clothing.

There is also another type of clip on available for purchase, this being with a retractable wheel. This method means the ID is again, easily viewable as it is clipped onto the clothing but the wheel means it can be moved without actually taking it off. This is also good if the person needs to access staff only doors.

-Make your own ID Card Holders

Some people may opt to use a safety pin to attach the ID to their clothing. This will make the ID viewable but many people prefer to use the simple crocodile clip – both have the same purpose but the safety pin option will leave holes in the clothing – hence people preferring the clip.

If the ID does not need to be on show another form of Id card holders or business card holder would be a simple wallet style. These types of holders can hold many cards and usually flip open with different slots to put the cards in. A holder like this is good for ID such as a Driving License – ID which you need and should carry around but don’t necessarily need to show people much and does not need to be constantly viewable.

ID such as a bus pass may be shown in a similar wallet style holder however these usually have 2 slips, one per side – this means that rather than taking the ID out, the wallet can just be opened and the ID is viewable as the slips have a clear cover.

Other types of holders are not as popular as those previously mentioned. These include an arm band and key ring. The arm band style holder has a clear outer cover so the ID can be seen but it is not widely used. The key ring is a rare type of holder – this is created by using the clear card holder usually attached the end of a lanyard, but instead it is attached to a key ring.
